After his post-match rant at Middlesbrough on Wednesday, Benitez was greeted by banners galore calling for his head.
But the under-fire Spaniard blocked out the chants and jeers as the Blues downed Steve Clarke's West Brom at Stamford Bridge.
The goal gave Chelsea the boost they so desperately needed and Juan Mata came close to doubling the advantage just moments later with a left-foot effort which flew just wide.
And the lack of goals allowed the home support to make life uncomfortable once again for both Benitez and the club's board.
Along with the normal anti-Benitez chants, Jose Mourinho's name echoed around the Bridge as the call went up for Roman Abramovich to bring the Special One home from Real Madrid.
And despite picking up three welcome points, Chelsea's interim manager headed down the tunnel at full-time with his ears still ringing.
