Secret to Federer winning a Slam in 2013.

What appears near-certain from factors currently impacting Federer - from within and outside - is that he is NOT winning two Slams this season. One? There's still a remote chance IF stuff is 'managed'.

IF that's a given (that he can win JUST one) by a slim margin, wouldn't it be prudent to do whatever it takes to increase the likelihood of that happening - to the TOTAL exclusion of everything else?

How about this: Decide NOW on the Slam you are targeting and then 'manage' the schedule, body, training, back, travel, opposition (?), Annacone's love interest etc. to allow you to peak for that SOLE moment.

For instance, say it's the US Open. It's a known fact that ALL players get there tired, bruised and injured. Heck, the thorn in your bush has made that a routine in all his years on the tour - except one. AND there's a strong possibility that he will be doing something to change that track record this time around.

Would scaling back the schedule leading up to the event help? You bet!!!!!! And if that makes you look bad for the fans and the sponsors, how about 'arranging' an early exit(s) with enough theatrics to make it appear 'real' - like you have been doing all along with Wawrinka - on and off the court? For even more tips, check with the Williams sisters - and the brother on steroids.

Not enough? Employ Lendl and his crew to construct the exact replica of the US Open center court in - Dubai. It worked more than once in the past so at least it cannot hurt.

And your lack of history NOT requiring you to play tons of matches to reach top form - IF a break IS needed - makes it an even more of a juicy and a no-brainer proposition.

2. You have to be willing and ready to sacrifice EVERYTHING else NO MATTER how realistic and possible it looks today - from No. 1 rank (Heck, ANY rank) to 8th Wimbledon to 22nd Masters to Roland Garros to WTF qualification to year-end ranking to whatfreakingever.
