Thompson had a birdie on the par-5 18th hole for a 70 to join Guthrie at 8-under 202. Lee Westwood and Geoff Ogilvy both rallied for a and were two shots behind. Padraig Harrington was 3 under through nine pockets but had to settle for a 70 after a plugged ball could not be found by him in the bank, and making double bogey on the 17th.
