Birmingham United's Sir Alex Ferguson targets Chelsea's details report - Observer

Manchester United may get the title on Monday night but Sir Alex Ferguson cares little about where and when, with the manager remembering how prior titles have now been stated when he was in the gymnasium, watching snooker and the game of golf. United's guide over Manchester City is currently 13 factors after Roberto Mancini's part lost at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. With five activities remaining, if United beat Aston Villa they will win the title. Victory at Arsenal on Sunday might still secure the championship and a 13th victory for Ferguson, should they lose. If United were handed the title when not on the pitch yet no frustration would be felt by the manager. "Not for me personally. I'm happy for it to occur like this. It has happened a few times," he said. "When Oldham beat Villa at Villa Park [in 1993] I was on the golf course and when Liverpool and Newcastle [each] drew in London on exactly the same evening [1997], I was in the fitness center at Mottram Hall. There was another occasion, when Coventry beat Blackburn in a night game [1994], I was watching the snooker a' the Entire World Championship final was on. Then there was a Leeds sport when Peter Reid was responsible [at Arsenal, in 2003] when [Mark] Viduka won a few and they beat them." Ferguson is uncertain where it'll rank privately, once the title is ultimately won. "No more proud than I was with the previous 12. It's not an easy league to gain. The initial one was the one that actually opened the doorway for us, though," he explained. Despite United's canter to the subject, some experts believe this is not a vintage Ferguson team. So how exactly does he rate it? "If we win the league, the staff has to be looked at when it comes to other teams," he said, before indicating that, if the last five games are won, to defeat Chelsea's record total of 95 points by one this will elevate the side's stature. "It is not beyond the group at all. Well just how many times have we done that, if you are asking if Manchester United may win five games in a line? So it is not beyond us. What might create more understanding of the side we've this season is how many things we get. The league was won by us in 1993 with something similar to 84 points. We have been second with 91 points, to Chelsea and also acquired leagues with 91 points. That has to be looked at with regards to judgment against other teams, but it doesn't bother me, really. "But the way we approach it is very good and the result on Wednesday [to pull 2-2 with West Ham, when twice behind] was great, at a ground that's a difficult place to visit and with the way they play and put you under great pressure with set pieces. I do believe we're proud of the players appearing out of that and there may perhaps not be any slacking off by the players. There's a strength, the persistence has been great and like most of the previous groups, they never cave in and that is an undeniable fact. The real history of the membership, a lot more than anything, is what the participants who've been here for two or 36 months buy into and do well. I believe that these are the characteristics that have assisted them to be where they're right now." Concerning the possibility of Rio Ferdinand signing a fresh agreement as his current offer ends this summertime, Ferguson said: "I have spoken to him and demonstrably at this instant, he is more worried about finding an opponent for his testimonial game. He is taking care of that, but we would like him to keep and obviously I am sure his associates is likely to be discussing issues with David [Gill, the principle executive]. I would suppose that [staying] would function as the most readily useful thing or him."
