The news is not good for Golden State Warriors' fans after Stephen Curry left the court in the fourth quarter against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.
Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson reports that Curry had X-rays on his ankle and that the results from that X-ray came back negative.
Curry sustained the injury after trying to get past Wizards player Cartier Martin on a fast break, with his opponent trying to wrap up Curry for the foul.
His ankle rolled as part of that—though not the fault of the defender—with no information yet known on how bad the injury is, or how long he will be out for.
The news comes as a bitter blow for Warriors' fans, who were witnessing an incredible night from Curry up until the injury occurred. The star guard had chalked up an incredible 35 points on 13-of-18 shooting (including 6-of-10 from deep) as well as eight assists to give his team a big win.
He was substituted off by Mark Jackson earlier in the night after an impressive 29-minute stint—a move that some saw as Curry's final act of the night.
Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson felt that he thought Curry was done for the night, but after a surprising rally by the Wizards, was forced to go back into the game. Ultimately, that move would be one that Jackson would live to regret, as Curry sustained the injury just minutes later.
And as if all of that wasn't bad enough already, Simmons then chimed in with the news that it was the right ankle that Curry had injured previously in his career.
The Warriors are currently in a tight battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and will be severely hampered in that without their star player.
Curry has averaged an impressive 22.2 points, 6.6 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals this year, and has only been held to single figures in scoring five times since the start of the season.
Golden State have two days off before welcoming the Los Angeles Lakers to town on Monday night who, ironically enough, just got star guard Kobe Bryant back from an ankle roll.
With the Lakers pressing for a playoff spot alongside the Warriors, Golden State will desperately be hoping that its star will also be back for that one.
