The goal-shy forward has failed to find the back of the net since his move to England and looks set to end his Premier League nightmare in the summer. Baggies boss Steve Clarke will hold talks with the Swedish striker over the coming months and has hinted for the first time that his future may lie elsewhere.
"I'm sure between now and the end of this season or now and the start of next season we will sit down and discuss it (his future)," said Clarke.
"It's a conversation that, at some stage, we will have to decide what is best for Markus and what's the best thing for West Bromwich Albion."
Rosenberg has struggled since his arrival from Werder Bremen last year and is frustrated with his under-par performances. But Clarke has reiterated his thoughts on his disappointing debut season by insisting that he is to blame for his goalscoring no-show – not Rosenberg.
While his chances of remaining at Albion next season appear slim, Rosenberg will have chances to break his goalscoring duck before the end of the current campaign.
The 30-year-old is in the squad for today's home clash with Arsenal and Clarke hopes he gets a lucky break if he features.
"I brought him off the bench at West Ham last week, he had a couple of attempts on goal but he needs one of those efforts to fly into the back of the net and hopefully that just breaks the little jinx that seems to surround him."
The 33-capped hitman has scored goals in the Bundesliga, La Liga and Eredivisie but has struggled to reproduce that kind of form in the English top-flight.
"I think it's just circumstances," said Clarke when asked if he has struggled to get used to the style of English football.
"I don't think you can say it's because of this league or that league because when you look at the minutes he's had on the pitch it's not enough."
