Talking to VOC Nation Radio Network (via PWTorch), Maria Kanellis, who was released in 2010, noted that she was keen to return to the company that made her a star, preferably with real-life boyfriend Mike Bennett: "I want to go back to WWE, and maybe Mike will come with me."
The pair currently work for Ring of Honor, although the Diva was non-committal about her future there, saying she expected to "eventually part ways" with America's No. 3 promotion.
Notably, Bennett attended a WWE tryout camp in early February. Thanks to his good looks, decent size and smooth mic skills, Bennett has always seemed like one of the best prospects for a WWE contract out of the current Ring of Honor roster.
Maria also addressed reports that she was originally scheduled to appear at Sunday's WrestleMania show, as part of an eight-woman tag team match. She acknowledged she had been in talks to appear, but that the plans ultimately never came to fruition.
I was one of the girls that they called. We were fine on all the details. I've owned my name since I was a little girl, so that wasn't a problem for me. WWE was totally cool with everything, but the storyline just fell through; I was excited about it.
Ultimately, no all-women's match at WrestleMania 29 was booked. The closest we're getting to it is the eight-person mixed tag team bout, which sees the Bella Twins and Team Rhodes Scholars take on the Funkadactyls and Tensai and Brodus.
Certainly, if Bennett is signed to a WWE deal, it makes sense for Maria to come too. She's an integral part of his act, as anyone who has seen Ring of Honor can tell you.
